First Samsung tri-fold smartphone
Samsung is reportedly set to unveil its first 'tri-fold' foldable smartphone a while earlier than expected. For context, the company was anticipated to introduce its Huawei Mate XT rival in early 2026. To that end, Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants stated earlier this month that panel shipments would commence in Q4 2025.
According to The Elec, the release schedule for Samsung's unnamed tri-fold has been brought forward to that of its other foldables. Based on the arrival of the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Galaxy Z Fold6 (curr. $1,269.99 - renewed on Amazon), Samsung's next foldable launch event will occur in July, likely less than six months after it starts shipping the Galaxy S25 series.
As it stands, this summer event should also serve to showcase the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7, as well as a cheaper version of the latter called the Galaxy Z Flip FE. A modest production run of 200,000 units is still expected to be in place for Samsung's inaugural tri-fold, which is roughly a tenth of the number of Galaxy Z Fold7 units for which it has budgeted. The first tri-fold from Samsung is believed to conform to the form factor of the Flex G, which subsidiary Samsung Display showcased this month during CES 2025 in Las Vegas.
